Resizing vs. Resampling

Let’s say you want to take a picture that has a giantnourous height and width and making it really small without taking any of the pixels away then that would be example of resizing your image. To resample your image you would want to take away some of the pixel from your image as well as making your image smaller. This will help reduce your file size which is really important if you are going to put the image on the web. It will reduce the time it will take to upload and when someone clicks onto your web page it will take less time to download on thier end.

RACHEL ASHLEY’S LOGO

LOGO

The thought process that went into this logo was, what is her company about, who are they and what can best describe her company without a lot of words.

Crafts, while the colors look elementary I wanted to keep it simple and something associated with scrapbooking as well as paper crafts.

Fell free to comment or give suggestions. I have found with branding and taglines that is takes a team effort. I may really like this design but have I thought about all the different angles or how it might seem to a third-party? Sometimes we are very parital to our own work.

Similarity

As in the article found at http://www.andyrutledge.com/gestalt-principles-2-similarity.php we find that similarity is not as simple as one might think. We could have 10 cups in all different shapes and sizes but yet they are the same. They are a cup. But, other than that there is no similarity. Same goes with circles that are all the same size. The my be similar in the fact that they are all circles with the radius of 10in. But they could be totally different colors and appear not to be similar at all. On the other hand you could have a square, a circle, a rectangle, a triangle and a octogon. Is there any similarity there? Yes, they are all shapes, just that little bit of similarity could cause them to be grouped together.

The rule of threes could change your design from blah to fabulous. It depends on how you arrange your items on the page and how you use text and pictures can determine if you can use it for web only or can it translate to a print design as well. As a designer I am lazy and want to do as little work as possible. So, why would I design something for just one type of media. That is just adding more work for me to do. I don’t think so.

Copyright

As an artist why is copyright important?
As an artist I believe a copyright is very important. I would not like someone just coming along and using my work      without permission. I have put the time and the effort into, just for someone to come along and take it like it is their own work.

How does this affect you as a web designer and developer?
As a web designer I have to be careful what I use and from where I get it from. Sometimes, you can get code and use it royalty free, other times you have to link to them or you have to pay a fee. I always have to read the fine print and make sure I give credit where credit is due. The same goes for pictures and stock photos.

In the article by graphic designer, Cameron Moll, what did he mean by “Good Designers Copy, Great Designers Steal”?

What is ment in this articles is pretty much you want to steal from your own ideas, work or thoughts. I don’t know how many times I have started a project and in the middle of it I decided that is not what I wanted. But, later I come to find that a piece of it comes in handy or a piece of this and a piece of that and I have something totally different than I had first planned.

Creative Slump

I often find my self in a slump. I sometimes just need to brainstorm, or just sit and think of something that would be of us to me. Then I go and research that idea, or how to achieve it and I will dig right in that usually gets me started and from there, there is no turning back. During the process I will usually go beyond what I was thinking and get an even better idea or product than what I was going for.

Gestalt Principles of Perception

The principles of perception is interesting.  It is all about how you perceive what you are looking at.  Just like the gray box with a white background and the other is gray box with the whole in the middle. The way the mind perceives and processes the information it is looking at is all about experiences. Who is to say that it isn’t a gray background with a white box and a white box with a whole cut into it.  But however you see it there is no wrong way and all the elements make up the pages look, feel, and context. Perception based on experiences is a good example of how to be culturally sensitive. Because based on their experiences red could mean something totally different than it does to us. No matter how much you want to deny it the World Wide Web is just that World Wide.

New to Blogging

I am new to blogging and never thought much about blogging about my projects. I wish I would have thought about it before now. There are things I have done and don’t remember the thought processes I was going thru or what the beginning idea was. I wish I would have documented things better than I have. I know that my projects have changed over the course of the development and well after the deployment of the project. I can’t remember what I did, where to find things or even how I did them. I think I will definitely use blogging as a tool in the present and the future.

I sometimes sit down when I am updating my website and think I wish I knew what I was thinking…. or what the purpose of something was. Can I now exclude it or do I need to add something to it.

I have looked at some graphics blogs and gotten ideas on how to do things, or elements I would like to include in my projects. The web has an overwhelming amount of  tutorials and information about creating graphics and different tricks to make things look the way you wish for them to look.
